Texoma Hazardous Household Waste

Hazardous Household Wastes (HHW) are materials that are harmful to health or environment if used, stored or disposed improperly. To protect our environment - do not dispose of hazardous household products in the trash, down the sewer, or on the ground. Bring them to the Hazardous Household Waste collection event on May 5th! To determine if a product is hazardous, look for words on the label, such as: CAUTION, WARNING, DANGER, or POISON. Avoid purchasing such items because of the disposal liabilities and costs. If you must purchase these products, buy for immediate use. Look for alternative products that are environmentally friendly and safer.

The Texoma HHW Collection Events will accept HOUSEHOLD quantities of:

Batteries, sprays, aerosols, cleaners, sealers, solvents, gasoline, tires, motor oil, filters, antifreeze, insecticides, pesticides, week killers, fluorescent lights, oil and latex paints, thinners, pool chemicals, ink and toner cartridges, and electronics (computer hardware, audio/video equipment, televisions, etc.), properly rinsed plastic crop protection product containers.

We CAN NOT accept:

- Radioactive materials

- Infectious/Biologically active materials

- Ammunition

- Explosive materials

- Compressed gas cylinders

- TSCA regulated PCB’s

- Regulated Dioxins

LIMITED ITEMS: Paint, Oil, other liquids - 10 gallons or less - NO drums containing product!

Tires - 8 or less - automobile tires only ... NO truck or tractor tires ... NO rims!

ALL Limits will be strictly enforced.

Wastes from businesses or contractors will not be accepted!

Please take care when transporting materials to the event. Be sure lids are on all containers. If a container is leaking, put it into another container to prevent spills. Identify materials without labels.

You will be asked to participate in a short, information gathering survey prior to entering the drop off area - your cooperation with the survey takers will be greatly appreciated.  Please stay in your vehicle at all times - you will be guided through the drop off area. Trained, professional hazardous material handlers will unload your hazardous household waste for you.

If you have questions, need more information or if you would like to volunteer for this event, please contact James Burnett at (903) 813-3550 or email jburnett@texoma.cog.tx.us.  This event is sponsored by Texoma Council of Governments with a grant from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, Keep Muenster Beautiful, Fannin and Cooke County Commissioners, Cities of Bonham, Gainesville, Muenster, IESI, Sanitation Solutions, 1st Choice RV, Texoma Area Solid Waste Authority, Rapid Refill Ink, USAG Recycling, Inc. and drinking water for workers is provided by our local Culligan Water man (and his wife).
