Common Dumping Scenes in Texoma

The views below are common scenes depicting dumping on private land in the Texoma region. Even though these are pictures of activity on private property, these activities are illegal.  Texas regulations (30 TAC 330) provide detailed instructions for legal disposal of small quantities of household waste on private land.  The dumping of commercial waste or the incorrect dumping of household waste are criminal offenses in Texas (see Health and Safety Code Chapter 365 and Chapter 7 of the Texas Water Code).

Left: Illegally dumped wood and metal scraps are a common sight in Texoma.

Right: The wrong way to dispose of roofing shingles.

Dumping into gullies and ravines is common on Texas ranches. Would you call this "erosion control"?

Dumping into water courses carry additional penalties under the Texas Water Code.
Left: More criminal violations of Health and Safety Code and Texas Water Code.

Right: Although common, burn barrels are illegal in most Texas counties.
